Rural Calendar

Furley Page was once again a key participant of the East Kent Ploughing Match, as the event celebrated its 80th anniversary at Quex Park in Birchington.

The Ploughing Match is a much-anticipated event on the rural calendar, and this year was blessed with fine weather which resulted in a large, enthusiastic turn-out of supporters and competitors.

The Agricultural and Rural Business Team from Furley Page welcomed friends, clients and contacts in their marquee, and took the opportunity to showcase local producers by serving beer from Canterbury's Floc Brewery and Jack's Juice apple juice from Ropers Farm

 in Teynham.

Also in attendance was a Gusbourne wine ambassador, who delivered a tasting of several wines produced at their Appledore winery, including their English Rose and their award-winning 2019 Blanc de Blancs.

Sarah Webster, Partner and Head of Agriculture and Rural Business at Furley Page, said: "The annual East Kent Ploughing Match is our flagship event and an opportunity for us to give something back to the rural community in Kent. It was great to see so many

clients and contacts on the day, and we are especially pleased to have used the wine tasting and raffle to raise money for the Furley Page Foundation to support Pilgrims Hospices, our charity of the year.

"As a long-term supporter of the Ploughing Match, it was particularly poignant to be there to help the event celebrate its 80th anniversary in the same year that Furley Page celebrates its 300th – two institutions that will hopefully be here for many years

 to come."

This year's event attracted thousands of visitors to watch competitors using modern, old and horse drawn ploughs. Those people wanting to test their shooting skills also competed in the Furley Page laser clay shooting competition.

Planning for next year's Ploughing Match is already underway, with the event being held in September 2026 at St Nicholas Court Farms in Monkton.
