A clean-up is underway following several large‑scale fly‑tipping incidents across Maidstone.

It is estimated the waste dumped in Yelstead Lane will cost over £5,000 to clear.

Officers from Maidstone Council have been working with other authorities, including Kent Police, and, on Monday 9 February, an investigation led to three arrests and a vehicle being seized and impounded by Maidstone Borough Council officers.

As part of Maidstone Borough Council's Don't Mess with Maidstone campaign, launched last year to crack down on environmental crime, the Council has been clear that it will pursue anyone who damages the borough by dumping waste illegally.

The Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Enforcement, Cllr Clive English said:

"This kind of organised environmental crime causes damage to our countryside and places a huge financial burden on local authorities.

"This action demonstrates that we take this issue extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with our partners to pursue those responsible. As part of our Don't Mess with Maidstone campaign, we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who fly-tips in our borough."
