Senior Leaders - CII

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has appointed a new Professional Communities Advisory Board (PCAB), bringing together senior leaders from across claims, underwriting and broking, as well as representatives from the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

The new board has been created to strengthen the role of senior practitioner insight in shaping the CII’s work and will now play a key role in supporting the organisations strategic thinking across its focus areas such as thought leadership.

This new framework has been designed to make far more effective and efficient use of this insight, ensuring it influences the Institute's direction and its membership in a meaningful way.

Senior cross-industry representation

The PCAB brings together senior practitioners from across the insurance value chain to provide insight on emerging risks, market developments and professional priorities. The senior figures are:

  • Richard Napoli, Divisional Director, Customer Solutions, Markel (Chair)
  • Joel Markham, Director of Schemes and Delegated Authorities, AXA (Deputy Chair)
  • Janet Edey, Financial Lines Director, Chubb
  • Kerry D’Souza, Underwriting Director, First Central
  • Eibhlin Swan, Head of Claims and Customer Delivery, Allianz
  • Alycia Thomson, PEMA Practice Director & Chair of Global, PIB
  • Nicola Maguire, Commercial Director, BIBA
  • Sheryl Fernando, Director of Membership and Commercial Strategy, ABI

Role of the board

The PCAB will work to the support the CII on priority areas across thought leadership, learning and professional development, working alongside the specialist advisor groups in broking, claims and underwriting who also lead and shape the CII Professional Communities.

It is intended to provide a more consistent mechanism for capturing and translating practitioner insight into CII outputs, including research, guidance and learning.

Richard Napoli, Divisional Director, Customer Solutions at Markel and Chair of the PCAB, said: “The CII play a pivotal role in shaping and guiding the insurance industry. The formation of the PCAB will help the CII ensure its initiatives continue to be focussed on the priorities that are key to those operating in the industry. I look forward to supporting the CII in their strategic thinking and wider market mission.”

Adam Harper, Executive Director, Advocacy and Professional Standards at the CII, said:

The Professional Communities Advisory Board brings together an exceptional group of leaders from across broking, underwriting and claims, alongside colleagues from BIBA and the ABI. Their expertise will help us to really understand the challenges and opportunities facing the profession, strengthen the relevance of our thought leadership and learning activity, and ensure that the voices of practitioners continue to shape the future direction of our work."
