Holiday Extras Launches Flight Delay Cover to Support Agents and Customers During Disruption

Real-Time Benefits Triggered Automatically After Two-Hour Delays

New ParagraphMarch 2026: Holiday Extras has launched Flight Delay Cover, a new insurance enhancement designed to give travel agents a simple, real-time way to support customers when flights are disrupted.

Available as part of Holiday Extras’ travel insurance policies, Flight Delay Cover provides customers with either airport lounge access or £25 per person (paid via PayPal) if their registered flight is delayed by two hours or more.

The benefit is triggered automatically once the delay threshold is met, removing the need for customers to make a claim in the moment.

Data-led product development

The launch follows analysis by Holiday Extras of five years of UK departure performance, seasonal demand curves and European airspace trends, identifying clear patterns in disruption risk.

The three most high-risk travel dates for 2026 are:

Monday 31 August (Summer Bank Holiday)

Friday 18 December (Friday before Christmas)

Peak leisure travel periods continue to place the greatest strain on aviation systems, with airports and airlines operating close to maximum capacity. On these days, minor operational issues, crew shortages, airspace restrictions or industrial action can have amplified knock-on effects.

By combining operational trend analysis with real-time flight monitoring, Holiday Extras has built Flight Delay Cover to respond automatically when disruption occurs.

A simple, sellable enhancement for agents

Flight Delay Cover has been designed to be straightforward for trade partners to offer and easy for customers to understand:

Customers register their flight in advance

If a delay of two hours or more occurs

Lounge access or £25 per person is automatically provided

Alice Lawson, Associate Director of Insurance at Holiday Extras, said:

“Disruption remains one of the most common pain points in travel. When delays happen, customers want immediate reassurance and practical support.

Flight Delay Cover gives agents a clear, tangible benefit to offer at the point of sale. It’s simple to explain, easy to add, and delivers value in real time — without additional administration for the agent.

Our focus is on helping partners enhance the customer journey during the countdown to departure, when confidence and clarity matter most.”

Supporting the countdown to departure

As a specialist in trip preparation, Holiday Extras continues to invest in products that improve the customer experience between booking and take-off — from airport parking and hotels to lounges, transfers and insurance.

Flight Delay Cover strengthens that proposition by combining data insight, automated triggers and practical customer benefits, reinforcing Holiday Extras’ role as a trusted partner for agents preparing customers for their trips.
