With less than one month until GCSE and A-Level results days, careers awareness campaign Generation Logistics are keen to shed light on the various roles and opportunities that are available in the logistics sector for school and college leavers.
As an ambassador for Generation Logistics, Freddie Clarke, a Regional Operations Analyst at
CEVA Logistics, is sharing his story to demonstrate how young people can build successful careers straight from leaving education.
Freddie first applied for a role at CEVA Logistics within project management in January 2024 while he was in his second year of A-Levels. After securing an initial video call interview, he was invited to a follow-up interview at the Head Office in Ashby, Leicestershire, where he presented his ideas for the future of logistics over the next five years. As the presentation required lots of preparation and hard work, Freddie was thrilled to be offered the role the following day.
He officially started at CEVA on 1st June 2024 at just 17 years old, less than two weeks after completing his final A-Level exam. From the very beginning, he threw himself into the role, working hard to learn quickly, understand expectations and make the most of every opportunity available.
At the end of August 2024, Freddie received his A-Level results, which unfortunately didn't meet the criteria required for the degree aspect of the apprenticeship. This led to a three-month review period to assess whether another role would become available and whether he was ready to take on the responsibility. During that time, he continued to focus on his work and demonstrate his commitment to the business.
Just before the 2024 Christmas break, he was informed that the team needed someone with more experience to hit the ground running. However, because of the performance and potential he had shown since joining, CEVA supported him in finding another opportunity internally. That support reflected the business's confidence in him and in his future within the company.
In the new year, just two days before he was due to leave CEVA, he received a call from the Control Tower Manager offering the role of a Regional Operations Analyst. He started the role at the beginning of February 2025 and has been there ever since, quickly adapting to the position and taking on further responsibility early in his career.
"I'm grateful for the opportunities I've been given and for the belief the business has shown in me throughout my journey. In a short amount of time, I've developed a wide range of professional skills and gained valuable experience across different areas of the business, which has strengthened my confidence and passion for the sector," says Freddie.
Freddie's favourite thing about working in logistics is the variety and pace. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn, and there are so many different career paths available.
"My advice to anyone considering a career in logistics would be to stay open-minded, work hard and take every opportunity that comes your way, because you never know where it might lead," comments Freddie.
Bethany Windsor, Programme Director at
Generation Logistics, comments:
"Joining CEVA and starting his career in logistics at such a young age, Freddie has demonstrated such great career growth and highlighted the opportunities available within logistics and how determination, adaptability and a willingness to learn can open doors to exciting careers.
"As young people prepare to receive their exam results, it's important they understand that there are many different pathways into rewarding careers, and logistics offers opportunities for people with a wide range of interests and skills."
