Monitoring commercial vehicle drivers' eyesight tests is a crucial responsibility for transport managers that can impact road safety, legal compliance and, ultimately, the company's operator licence. Drivers of heavy goods or passenger-carrying vehicles must meet strict vision standards set by regulatory authorities, and failure to ensure these standards are maintained can lead to serious consequences for all concerned.
The launch of an innovative new partnership at Logistics UK's Fleet Engineer conference today (18 June) will enable Logistics UK's members to access discounted SeeDrivePro online eyesight screening for their drivers through a partnership with leading provider EyeLab.
SeeDrivePro is a quick, low-cost but accurate online eyesight screening test developed by qualified optometrists and vision scientists at optical experts EyeLab. It is designed to support compliance with DVLA and DVSA eyesight standards and help operators identify potential issues before they become a failed medical, roadside prohibition or audit issue. The test is aligned with DVLA and DVSA Snellen visual acuity standards and specific versions have been created for HGV/PSV drivers and company car/van drivers.
Jemma James, Logistics UK's Director of Partnerships and Digital Services, is excited by the potential offered by the new partnership: "Demonstrating effective eyesight monitoring procedures helps show that a company is fulfilling its duty of care to its drivers and complying with legal obligations, which is essential for maintaining the 'good repute' required to hold an operator licence.
"This simple test from EyeLab is designed to be used annually as a routine fleet check and takes just a few minutes per driver. It does not replace a full medical but is a great way to identify and prevent problems before they escalate. Ultimately, proactive management of drivers' eyesight protects public safety, reduces risk and safeguards the business's ability to operate."
SeeDrivePro also supports FORS requirements by providing documented eyesight screening, helping companies to demonstrate proactive management of driver fitness between medicals. The low-cost screening is just £4 per test for Logistics UK members, who can access their exclusive discounted rate by registering with EyeLab using the details found here: EyeLab online eye test
