Full Commercial Venture
At 43, I made the decision to take a leap into the unknown. After 22 years with the British Army Reserves—retiring at the rank of Sergeant—I chose to turn a long-time hobby into a full commercial venture. In 2022, together with my fiancée Haley, we founded Marshall’s Drone Services Ltd, becoming a Limited company in 2023.
Starting a business was brand new territory. I had experience leading teams as a senior chef, teaching as a CBRN Defence Instructor, and even working as a qualified HGV driver—but I knew nothing about accounting, networking, or client acquisition. At the same time, life was moving quickly: we bought a house, welcomed our son in March 2023, and built a business from the ground up. It’s been a steep learning curve, but an incredibly rewarding journey.
Today, Marshall’s Drone Services offers a wide range of professional solutions. From chimney and roof inspections, 3D digital models, and thermal imaging surveys, to full wedding videography packages combining drone and ground cameras, we tailor our services to meet each client’s unique needs. Our work also extends to solar panel inspections, damp detection, and promotional video production for businesses looking to stand out online and canvas prints for the home or office wall.
We’re proud to be one of the few small drone companies approved by Motorsport Vision (MSV) to fly at venues like Brands Hatch. More recently, we’ve partnered with Railscape to assist with rail network inspections—surveying trackside vegetation and identifying potential risks before they become major issues.
Behind the scenes, drone operations are about far more than flying. Around 90% of our time is spent planning, risk-assessing, and ensuring every project is fully compliant with CAA regulations. This attention to detail means our clients can rely on safe, professional results every time.
What began as a personal passion has grown into a trusted, adaptable service.
