Port of Dover - Staff Prepare
Summer Getaway

As schools across England prepare to close for the summer holidays, work at the Port of Dover increases.
Behind the scenes employees at the Port have been preparing, and if my own experience last weekend is anything to go by, they are already doing an amazing job.
It was not even 5.50 when I arrived at the Port of Dover last Saturday. The lines of cars had already started forming and it was clear that many dozens of HGVs had been waiting for some time. The staff of the Port of Dover however were putting a brave face on it.
It was already warm and staff were guiding people to their lanes for the passport control and onto their respective ferries. Questions answered, each time with a smile and confidence to see each traveller safely on their way.

Speaking to one chap who kindly put me in a slightly faster lane to passport control I expressed my admiration for his calmness. He explained that he had worked at the Port for years and today was only as expected and that he knew what he and his colleagues were in for over the next few weeks. He said that while it was hard work he did feel sorry for the holiday makers when they are stuck waiting and he and his colleagues do their very best to get people through as quickly as possible.
In the above image tow of the Duty Officers of the Port of Dover, Craig and Amanda are seen assisting in with the lines. Normally based in Terminal Control building, managing all land operations they, like other colleagues help on the ground when it gets busy.
And so, if you are planning to use Britain busiest Port in the next few weeks, allow a bit of extra time, it will be busy, however the people on the ground have your interests at heart and are doing a hard job well.
