With International Women's Day just behind us, industry data is offering a clear snapshot of where the transport and logistics sector is genuinely making progress on gender equality – and where there's still significant room to improve.

Figures from the 2025 Women in Transport Equity Index show women now make up 27% of the industry workforce and 36% of leadership roles, highlighting steady progress in a sector that has traditionally struggled with representation.

However, the data also shows opportunities for employers willing to lead. 59% of organisations report a gender pay gap of 11% or more, and 65% have yet to implement a formal action plan to address it, suggesting that transparency and structured progression could become key differentiators for companies seeking to attract female talent.

According to Rachael Knight, Head of Operations at The LGV Training Company, the findings should be seen as a practical roadmap rather than a criticism of the sector.

"International Women's Day is a powerful moment to celebrate how far we've come and commit to going further," she said. "The latest data shows exactly where employers can focus their efforts – and the organisations that act now will be the ones shaping the future of logistics."

The LGV Training Company works with women entering and progressing in logistics careers and says the sector has a real opportunity to build on the momentum created around International Women's Day.
