Following news that the pound has risen to its highest level since the Brexit referendum, Holiday Extras reveals what this means for holiday prices.

Please find a comment from Seamus McCauley, Head of Public Affairs and Holiday Extras, below, which outlines where holidaymakers can benefit the most from the stronger pound.

Seamus McCauley, Head of Public Affairs at Holiday Extras said: "The pound is at its strongest against a basket of currencies in a decade, up nearly 6% against the euro and about 3% against the dollar, but a stronger pound does not automatically mean a cheaper holiday. It only does if sterling's gain outpaces inflation at your destination, and when you set the two side by side the picture is very uneven. Indonesia, including Bali, comes out about 7% cheaper in real terms, with Poland, Taiwan and Egypt about 5% cheaper. Turkey, by contrast, is about 6% dearer even though the pound has soared against the lira, because inflation there has more than cancelled out the gain.

"Where most of us spend our holidays, the Eurozone, the gain runs from a modest 2% in Portugal and France to nothing at all in Greece and Italy, with Spain only about 1% cheaper. There are plenty of opportunities for a flexible, canny traveller, but before you book Spain or Greece expecting your pound to go further, check where you will really feel the benefit."
